In 1853 gold was discovered near Bright, thus opening up the region to thousands of prospectors. Alluvial Gold disappeared within a few short years which prompted Quartz mining and forestry industries. The beautiful pine, eucalypt, walnut and chestnut forests which abound near Bright, together with its endless Kilometres of walking and cycling tracks make the area a constant joy to the many tourists to the area.

Day drives from Karnu will take you to the Alpine High Country areas of Mt Buffalo, Falls Creek or Mt Hotham, all true winter playgrounds and a photographer's dream.

What to Do and See

Golf - Karnu Cottages are ideally positioned for you to enjoy as much golf as you want. This is 100 kms for off road cycling or walking. Bushwalking - In Spring and Autumn the trees and wildlife around Bright are an ever changing wonder.
